The early 747s all had that upper first class lounge, which was fabulous. And a pretty good lounge in coach, which I also experienced. The last time I flew on a 747, nearly 20 years ago now, I did book first class, and it was quite nice, but I very much missed the upper class lounge. Instead, that upper deck was completely filled with business class passengers. I know, I went up there.

I had the wonderful good fortune to be an airline employee in the 1970s, truly the golden age of air travel. Lucky me.

It just isn't the same anymore, which is why I so rarely fly anywhere these days. Sigh.

We were in Scotland for October, and stupid airlines took our 2 flights from Fresno to Edinburgh to 4 BOTH ways, 8 planes total.
BUT when i was checking in to our sub human basic under economy, it asked to you want to upgrade to Business? From Frankfort to O'Hare, 600$ i'm like YEAH
747, first time for me, lie-flat seats OH my, i felt like Patrick! Honestly, as we enjoyed pre flight drinks, and so much attention, I was in heaven.
I hope to repeat this event somehow, 747, lie-flat seats, Lufthansa
wow, it was amazing and.. does a 747 somehow have less turbulence?
747 forever!

I flew in a 747 in 1971 from Frankfurt to New York. I distinctly remember the spiral staircase and the bar in the lounge at the top. There was also a “Pong” video game in the lounge that my brother and I played for a good bit of the flight.I agree it was and is an elegant aircraft, I have not experienced anything like it since in 50 years of travel.
