You don’t sound like someone who’s been to India. Yes, I do admit that Mumbai has many problems and there are many tourist traps, and it was unfortunate that the author fell right into one of them.
But quote -“air so thick you can’t breathe, water you can’t drink, combing through trash to make a living”, I strongly suspect that your opinions are based on Slumdog Millionaire rather than something you’ve experienced yourself. Please go out and educate yourself and experience it yourself before saying such things.
I am a Mumbai resident and no, I don’t have to battle my way through garbage or poverty or polluted air. Life here is good. There is a reason it is called the city of dreams, a reason that it is a cultural hub, and houses some of the richest and most talented people in India. We do have some problems, but blatantly implying that Mumbai represents poverty is just looking at a corner of a vast picture that you haven’t even begun to comprehend.
