Being your typically pedantic avgeek I was not fooled LoL. I suspected that SR wouldn't have used a 747 to Tehran abyways. After listening to the retelling of the odyssey on the fantastic youtube podcast "The Argonauts" by SPYSCAPE. One of the hostages remarked that as they were boarding the aircraft, he noticed that it was fortuitously named 'Argau'. A little research reveals that 'Argau' was a DC8 70 series HB-IDL. Most of the photos on the net show it in the 'new' (Brown stripes) livery, however I'm not sure exactly when it was repainted. However, I am happy to hear that I am not the only pedantic avgeek out there, hence the reason I found your post.

I'm a designer in the tv/film industry and also a pilot and while I technically agree with you on the 747 faux pas in Argo, I'll admit that I was so caught up in the story that you could have used a Connie at the end and I'd have bought it. I think this speaks to the quality of the storytelling. An audience will believe what you tell them unless it's especially egregious and sometimes even THAT doesn't matter if the story is compelling. Without the internet who would have ever heard about the stray Starbucks cups in Game of Thrones?
